What is bio-slurry?

  • Material that remains after decomposition of organic materials is called digestate – or bio-slurry
  • A liquid containing all nutrients from the manure and organic materials
  • Has been pre-treated (part of the organicmaterials are decomposed)
  • May improve plant health
  • WARNING: May contain contaminants:
    • Biological (e-coli, micro-organisms, ringworms)
    • Chemical (heavy metals)

Bio-slurry Composition:

  • Contains basic nutrients and can serve as an organic fertilizer
  • Nutrients are mostly readily available (especially nitrogen)
  • Favourable acidity (pH)
  • Homogenized organic matter
